Ahoy! mi hearties!.......here I am again!

Everything is going well back at the good lady ship The Golden Behind...but as is the way the shores of Scarborough beckoned me away from her once more....:)

I have been into many local Inns these past few days and am now just a little bit lost at sea as to which order I visited them in, so forgive me if they are not in any sort of sequence....

Jolly Roger beer fest guests.....

I popped into the Jolly Roger the other Sunday to sample their beer festival goings on, of which there were many...:) The main one being the drinking of beer.

This titalating poster displayed Terry's favourite tipple.....ahem....

When I arrived with a few of mi ship mates there was everything from a "Top Totty" to an "Old Leg Over".......so I played safe and went for the York brewery's award winning pint called The Yorkshire Terrier :) Once passed the bar we joined in a game of skill which promised a reward of several bottles of beer. A spinning target area with various scores marked on spots was hit with a sticky dart fired from a crossbow. I came joint 4th with a score of 22 whilst the winner topped 28! ah well.... at least I came away with two free bottles of "Old Leg over" for mi troubles....

Now here's what you could have won.....

There was also a secondary game which you entered when you bought a round, which gave you the chance to win a holiday, everyone's entry was put in a hat and drawn out at random......four people tried and failed to hit one of two yellow dots on the spinning target, until an 'infamous' Jolly Roger local called Fraggle stood up... missing with two and then hitting the winner with his third dart, any room left in your suitcase mate ?

Fraggle wins the free holiday...

Our evening was concluded in the upstairs bar of the Jolly Roger listening to their resident Sunday band, the room lit only by the bar lights and several candles stood in bottles.......a very, shall we say, "unplugged" atmosphere? though the guitars were very much plugged in ! :)

Unplugged......but electric!

There's always a young lady waiting for you in the Jolly Roger.....

The West Riding is growing to be a very good locals pub....their ladies darts team were taking on The Britannia Inn 'ladies of the arrows' when I stopped by for a few tipples.

The New West Riding verses the Britannia Inn ladies darts teams is always competitive and fun....

Incidentally anyone with an interest in Scarborough's local history can sit in any part of the New West Riding and view the best set of 'new' old photos of the area I've seen in a long while which adorn the walls of this very friendly local.....I spent quite a while chatting with fellow locals as to exactly where the photos were of and what was there now etc....

The Land Lady of the New West Riding demonstrates her pulling power....

Stumbled into The Sun Inn "Home of Barry Sparkle Barman extrodinaire" for a quick chat early the other Monday, Pauline the landlady agreed with me that it had become one of the busiest pubs on the Scarborough weekend crawl at the moment. The beer ain't too bad either as it's entry in the Camra Guide is testament to......for the younger crew I noticed they have the cheapest Vodka Redbull in Town on offer at £2, though how much Redbull is in this measure isn't said...... but I'm sure if you're a young lady and you ask Barry the barman nicely he'll give you more than a little extra measure......;) By the way for those Sun Inn locals who would like to know, Sandy is very much alive and kicking.....I've seen him with mi own eyes!

The Falsgrave run is still a favourite of mine when staying in Scarborough over the weekend, usually starting with a scouting pint in the Tap and Spile before the football starts and then one on the way back from seeing the mighty Boro (Scarborough FC that is). Returning again in early evening, after looking after the good lady ship The Golden Behind, for the start of a long crawl from the 'Tap' and thence into town. Of course a longer one can be had by starting from the New Crown Tavern, but only if you start out very early doors.....or intend no further than the New Old Vic before closing time :) Falsgrave's pubs all serve food plus there are three chippies and a Chinese and a Pizza take-away so you could line your stomach very well indeed before you face the Town centre night life.

If you do take the Falsgrave challenge then the walk certainly gives you a reason to justify a night on the ale...."look"; you can say, "It's all part of my fitness program"

The Alma always beckons when nearing the top of town, especially when entertaining people from afar.....though be warned when taking in people from say New Zealand. I made that mistake last week. "We don't have very many real beers back home" said the Kiwi "The only real beer you can get is if you ask for a can of Boddingtons", not the thing to say to a Yorkshire Landlord of any repute...... "Boddingtons......real beer!"

Pepper's Bar further on into town is one of those places that gets jammed packed during the weekend and pleasantly not too quiet during the week.....during which time you can appreciate the music memoriabelia on the walls. If you take the time you'll notice a Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band jigsaw.....how many peices are missing ? email your numbers to me and I'll tell you if you're right in a fortnights' time....:)

I went out of town on my ever increasing duty to find the best local pub quiz......this time The Black Horse in Cloughton. It's a kind of 'block busters' affair, you place the answers to questions asked in the corresponding numbered circle on your answer sheet....one side blue balls the other red balls....The aim being to get from the blue to red by linking up the correct answers.....obviously if you do so and your answers aren't correct you don't win...

Enter The Black Horse of Cloughton's Pub quiz and you can win Beer Tokens!!!!!!

But when you do win....and this is the best bit.....you win four free beer/drinks tokens!!! :) plus at the start of the last game of the evening a jackpot can be won within the first six questions asked if you fill up all the red or blue balls with the correct answers.....as this is very hard to do the jackpot just keeps getting bigger and bigger....

Well a week can't go by with out me having a look at the after hours bars and last week wasn't any different....

The Landlord of the Pickwick is the one wearing the tie......

The Pickwick opens it's downstairs after calling last orders upstairs and is less smokey than you may have first imagined it would be, infact it's not smokey at all really......

The music is Queen Bohemiam' through to Suzie Quatro/Wizard though some modern stuff is played from time to time when it fits in.......ie Skunk anansie etc....

'Quo' let their hair down at the Pickwick...

The Tomb and Kings are still very good value for money in my book and throughout the week are just the right party palaces for the regular after hours reveller.....you can't beat a good top shelf cheap bottle offer and indie/mainstream music mix.....

Mummy!!!!

.......... Student Rock night at Club XS is a small wednesday evening treat.... then again if you're more mainstream the more traditional clubs of upstairs Club XS (younger people) and Boleyns(older poeple) may suit you better. Laughtons pre-nightclub bar stays open until 2am with drinks at pub prices.....

The Tomb has two dance floors...one big and one small......the smaller one also has large mirrors so you can always find yourself a dancing partner...:)

Quids Inn and The New George stay open gone the midnight hour......both have dance floors...the Quids Inn catering for the most part teenagers and The New George more early 20's upwards......

Well best be orf and catch the tide......all aboard.....splice the mains'l.....make ready and cast off those big heavy ropes.....set sail for the open seas and mind the sand bar......catch you laters land lubbers!........ I'm off to the poop deck
