As far as I can recall proceedings went as follows........

Arriving just before 8pm at the Indigo I said my hellos and parked myself in a corner along with fellow UP for It! writer Zircon Mercedes and proceeded to count the votes which we had collected from over thirty or so Pubs in Scarborough. Votes were well spread about the taverns from the Crown Tavern in Falsgrave, to the Leeds Arms in the Old Town.

We had to sort out a short list of ten from the many entries received before 9pm as we didn't wish to take up too much playing time away from Paul Middleton and Angst....

All filed away and listed we stepped up to the mics and welcomed the throng which had gathered before us....unused to the mic Cap'n Ants tapped and squealed before realising that if you actually speak into the thing close to then noise comes out further away....

Wearing a thick knitted jumper, bright yellow sou'wester an eye patch and a navy blue boatman's cap the Cap'n handed over the mic to the former roadie that is Zircon Mercedes....where upon the top thirty or more Bar Staff of the Year were announced.....Full list shall be appearing on the upforit.tv website as soon as I can see just the one keyboard.....we were going to just shout out the top ten but thought we'd play fair and give a shout out for everyone counted....

The top ten, we thought, could be read in reverse order later on in the evening....

The band plugged in and struck up an immediate rapour with the attentive audience.....

Nudged in the ribs by other members of the Up For It team I was soon selling raffle tickets for such prizes as Carling fleeces, ruck sacks , t-shirts, pens etc from Rob Whelan of Bass fame, a bottle of whiskey from kath Duffy of the Newcastle Packet, a collection of red and white wines from Graham at the indigo and several 'Sea Urchin' shaped ash trays from a good friend in Ramshill.....there were many other prizes that were up for grabs but in my present state I can't quite remember them....though I do recall Lindsay from the Crown Tavern turning up part way through the draw with a substantial bottle of alcoholic beverage which was of great note for those in the know due to it being won by Jilly Bean Atkinson of Leeds Arms fame...(Plenty of 'half past tens' for later on eh?).

Before the draw Paul Middleton and Angst had been working up a sweat as they kept their public en rapt in their self penned musical and lyrical landscapes whose bluesy zappa-esque bird song swooped and soared. With time ticking by Zircon and myself grabbed the mics and bantered between each other floating notions and vagaries of the year just gone by, ......ah now then, the Awards.... mmmmm......before the top ten bar staff count down, we let loose a few light hearted vollies....The 'Most Legendary Landlord' Award went to Tony of the Trafalgar and after a vote on a short list of five nominations (Steve of the Alma, Kath of the Newcastle Packet, Ian of the Tap'n'Spile, Graham of the Indigo Alley and Richard of the Hole in the Wall that is no more) the 'Grumpiest Landlord' award went to the Indigo Alley's very own Graham, though having said that some had mis-heard and thought they had been voting for the 'Grooviest Landlord' Award.....

A brief break to draw the raffle tickets....then, pressed for time, we cut to the chase.....the top ten bar staff count down.....the top three were as follows......in at number three Haley Richardson of the Tennyson Arms, in second place Tracy Levis of the Albert, and at pride of place on the winners podium..........drum roll please......Andy Brown of the Newcastle Packet!
