North Yorkshire's Talented musicians show off to the world!

Ok here are a few words for you on how the 7th of July 2002 gig went.......

I walked down falsgrave, up the hill, passed the station....paused a while for traffic, a bead of sweat trickled down my forehead.... crossed over the road halfway...paused again for traffic, smiled said hello to a young lady in her summer outfit...then crossed over along a bit and then down a few stairs and finally into Murrays Music Bar......the stage was being set.....

Guantanamo and a couple of other bands had turned up to check when they were required in the set list, the York bands still on the way in on the A64 would be here in the next hour or so depending on caravans and tractors...phones were ringing and conversations held a slight note of urgency about them....more than a bit of P.G.T. (pre-gig-tention) was in the air....

I saw everything on the tech side was going ok, as Wilf the pro roadie along with Graham Rhodes were there... So I left to return later with my laptop, webcam, video recording device, a pair of wet suits and a boogy board....a boogy board? wet suits? don't worry all will be revealed shortly...

Bar a slight hiccup involving a high-hat and another piece of silly-named equipment everything was ready and so the party could begin....we were online, live and the Bands and musicians completely UP For It!.....Bill Harding had acomplished his task of bringing a host of York bands along to Scabby and one of them, Benson, were first up and launched this inaugural 'Local Live Love In' with a whallop! tish! tish! twang!.....they really threw themselves into the music...before you could say "F***ing 'ell they're fantastic!" they had rivers of sweat pouring down their faces everyone in awe....what a cracking start....beat that!....Asylum Seeker Dirk at least matched them as he played another originally penned set of emotionally charged numbers, his eye brows and vocals accompanying his guitar....

A whole host of local talent was eagerly waiting for their turn on stage....I'll post the full running order onto the website and print it in the next edition of UP For It! and of course you'll be able to see and hear them on DVD when you purchase it on the beach during the H2002:BEACHED gig....anyways 4 til 7.30 was filled with the talented Tom Townsend & Dan Hazelwood, Setback, Guantanamo, Matt & Mike, Kali Blunt and a host of others I am still incapable of recalling due to my head being totally blown away by the truley magnificiant fully umphed up acts that followed the afternoon's bold bashy antics and accomplished acoustics....

Starting with the highly made up faces and scared hair of The Screaming Banshee Aircrew, who had brought a good handful of gothic groupies with them....they chucked out their dark lyrics through a lead singer in stripy tights....the three other band members wore suitably ripped clothing of a darker shade of black, red and purple.....they were an acquired taste but we just went with it....Whitby's Goth weekend had turned up for a half hour to play....

The Bobak Cut followed and showed why they are just begging to be big some day soon, though they'll have to stop being so hung up about how their name is spelt....I missed off the 'THE' when I printed it in UP For It! and they didn't let me forget it...

When Finger Puppets took to the stage the room was suitably lively with people filling the front of the stage....this take no prisoners Goth outfit have a lead singer with a stage presence that will take them a long long way into planet celeb in the next couple of months....as they have deals being brokered and ink setting in an office in an Ivory tower somewhere in showbiz city....this band is a definitely must see next time they're in town or playing somewhere you can drive to...

With the Venue nicely warmed up and space a premium the now very much established and regular Indgoers favourites the Surf Sluts cranked up their three guitars and mashed the drums, working the audience into a frenzy of excitement with their surf riffs and a couple of surf babes in wetsuits and a boogy board hired from the secret surf shop round the corner...Fez their lead singer strolled upto the stage, paused, then eating the microphone uttered the words everyone was waiting to hear "Papa oo mow mow papa oo mow mow....." and the room was jumping!

We had chance to catch our breath as Paul Middleton and his band Angst set up their gear..the back line was totally ripped out and rejigged within 15 mins....amazing! after a quick whet of their whistles, they launched into 35 mins of pure musical ear pleasure....the Talent that went before who had not quite understood who he was and why we had put him top of the bill were soon realising they were in heaven...live music just don't get any better!!! trust me......the couple of hundred people who had witnessed the days proceedings and the fifty/sixty or more talented people who had help make it happen started to drift away slowly, very slowly as they were in deep conversation with each other, it had been Local,Live and totally loved In....now the DVD! and the 3rd of Aug H2002:Beached has got a hard act to follow...we've warm them up for you Steve and crew

...... now let's all get along to the southbay beach and make it happen!!!!!
