Ahoy! mi hearties! December is upon us and with it cold winds, dark evenings and plenty of festive cheer! Having decked out the good lady ship the Golden Behind with Christmas decorations, twinkling lights, a large Nordic fir tree and stocked up the galley with Port, Rum and Sherry...I set a course for town.....:) I took a stroll down Valley Road the other evening and popped in on Mr 'Iron Brew' the owner of Kings Public house, Kings Night Club and The Tomb. His accent is still as strong as ever and his biting satire was near the knuckle....A giant wide-screen TV entertained us with the evening's football. DJ Starky and fellows joined with me in wording the GIVE US A FLASH! photos that were taken in the Kings Night club......best quip being the "Enter the valley of the Kings" caption...... ;)
Feeling peckish and in need of a good lining before the evening started proper....I was drawn toward the latest and brightest Fish and Chip resturaunt in Scarborough. Built where a mexican resturaunt and previous to that an American ice cream parlour had been and next door to a pet shop, which should be handy if they run out of ingredients..then again goldfish don't give very filling fillets do they, on St Nicholas Street. Sweeping waves of seating with oceanic fish tank lighting , give this new venture a modern look for the fashion conscious mushy pea afficionado. Not as cheap as eating them from newspaper but beats Mc Donalds and Pizza Hut as an alternative early evening pre-beers meet 'n' greet eatery.
Murray's bar has become quite a success story....being able to attract the young and the beautiful of Scarborough and surrounding areas for early evening hellos and then keeping on the more grown up of us with the eclectic array of cover bands they have booked for our entertainment past 9pm...... You may be pleased to note that there is some FREE BEER! available from Murray's during this season of goodwill click here for more info.....
My legs stretched as far as The Cask one Friday evening on the promise of a pint of beer for under a pound......Mmmmm! well that didn't quite happen but prices did come mighty close. Most of the bargins I saw all came in the spirit department, though a pint of real ale came down to £1.50, which suited me just fine....one round between four for just over £2 can't be bad! but then again it does force you to mix your drinks.... My head the next day was not mine..in fact I think aliens had abducted me during the night and performed experiments with my body leaving me with a head made of a ball of wool with two knitting kneedles stuck in it.... By the way The Cask being amidst the Student Zone of the Borough there is a 10 percent discount if you have your NUS card with you....
With company Christmas functions and office partys in full swing in Scarborough I was enforced to go with the crew to places afar for our little once a year nobody pays but the Cap'n meal. Out at the Kirkham priory, turn off a little after Malton, is a place called the Stone Trough Inn.....and boy did we trough...

As you can see larger windows have replaced the small square ones....
and the whole thing tidied up and repainted in glossy black with grey trim...nice job well done :) it has been open for the majority of the refurb of the facia. 'Bob's special' was a particuarly good tipple when I rested myself by the bar.... Take a peek during your Boxing day crawl....Eastborough is starting to look smart again!.......come on Turks Head now it's your turn.......the gauntlette has been thrown.... As a warm up for the coming forknight of festive partying I moored up at the Indigo Alley bar, Real Ale is the order of the day here and, as on the occasion I ventured in, a band entertains.....don't be put off by the bar staff though, they're quite harmless really.....:)
When getting in a few last order pints at the New West Riding later on that evening, I tried my luck against the resident whirl-wind at a game of pool........Pete' needless to say cleared up in minutes! another lesson learned mi thinks.
Pete is getting a good response for his Go-Carting league with twelve teams now on his list......anyone wishing to partake in the Go-Carting league just pop into the West Riding and have a chat with him over a pint or two..you'll need eight in your team and the races are to be held once a month :) The festive season is well and truly in full swing now....so if you have any Crimbo snaps you wish to be included on this or the Give Us A Flash! pages then get them sent in and you'll be able to view them over January....cheers! Well best be orf and catch the tide......all aboard.....splice the mains'l.....make ready and cast off those big heavy ropes.....set sail for the open seas and mind the sand bar......catch you laters land lubbers!........
