Ahoy there! land lubbers! Just sailed back into port after a brief visit south of the equator in New Zealand.....Having not been in town for a while I decided to re-aquaint myself with Scarborough and her bars......:) Capt'n Ants Sails back into port from New Zealand Taking a stroll up Eastborough I nearly fainted.....The Turks Head was getting the refurb' everyone has been waiting for since the year dot......quick get the flags and the bunting out and lets have a parade!!! three cheers! and all that etc... I'll be popping in when everything's finished to test the beer and shake the hand of those responsible. :) No Turks Head-ache anymore...:) Scarborough has had a long history of friendship and affiliation with the Italians what with the Gardens, Restruants, Icecream parlours, Pizza shops and now a true Italian Cafe-bar. You will find this jewel situated next door to the New George.....I popped in last week for a coffee and a chat with Franco.... Every wine on the rack is Italian, rangeing from the very pleasant to the very very....erm...expensive. The Italian beer is kept in the chiller behind the bar although I'm sure, given time, the taps will appear :) A relaxed and very warm Italian welcome is assured whether you're casually popping in for a coffee and a chat during the day or entertaining during the evening.....ask Franco nicely and he may even take you on a flight across to Italy in his private aircraft..... :) A noval touch are the Italian newspapers which can be found at the bar....if you're studying Italian you can now do it whilst having a beer,wine or a proper cup of coffee! There is food on offer....all Italian flavours....extra special Italian made cakes are imported at great expence from mother Italy.....now that's authentic! True Italian flavour To celebrate my return I was invited out by several friends.....so I donned mi shiney buttoned jacket and met them for some welcome homes.... Slightly the worse for wear the following morning.....I put on mi walking boots for the 24th Crown Tavern Charity Challenge. Although a shorter walk than usual and a completely different route, due to the Foot and Mouth crisis, over 100 of the regulars all turned up and supported the event whole heartedly.....facts and figures later..... Pete of the New West Riding is to be hosting a regular Sunday Pub Quiz sometime in the near future and gave me a sample of the questions he'd be asking.....such as what do you call a male Kangaroo etc.... (I'll let you have a think and then tell you the answer next week) He also thought I'd been back a week earlier having had a crowd of gents dressed up as pirates come by his pub on a stag night......but as the song goes...."It wasn't me" I was still in New Zealand. If anyone's got photos of them then do send them in...... The White Horse for some reason has become Scarborough's and maybe Englands shrine to the art of Karaoke.....you can now pretend yourself to be the Beatles 8 days a week!!!! The Trafalgar pub hasn't change internally for an age.....nor should it do so for a while yet as I always enjoy admiring the large painting of the Battle of Trafalgar.....But please can you sort out your smoke extracting system!!!! I could only stand it for a pint before leaving as I nearly choked myself to an early grave....sorry :( The smoke of the battle gets in my eyes.... Mmmmm! Trafalgar.....next pub the Nelson on Victoria road then...and guess what!?....Karaoke!!!!.....not in the mood I passed on the opportunity and, like a vindaloo curry, I stopped for a short while and then continued straight through...... I see no ships... Running out of places to have a drink in non-poluted atmospheres I settled down for a musical pint in Indigo Alley with Zercon Mercedes joining me..... A drink drunk another bar called....Zercon having not been to the Red Square we had ourselves a couple of shooters each in a spirit of Glasnost etc... a squashed frog and a flatliner...... Zercon's unique and disturbing drinking technique.... Well best be orf and catch the tide......all aboard.....splice the mains'l.....make ready and cast off those big heavy ropes.....set sail for the open seas and mind the sand bar......catch you laters land lubbers!........
