Steve Mojo explains.....
"Following the resounding success of
“Acoustic Gathering I & II” this year’s event
rings the changes, the bill this year will not
feature any acts from the previous 2 festivals
but will feature many out of town guests,
local acts who have not featured before, plus
the fantastic 3 DAFT MONKEYS headlining.
“Acoustic Gathering III” will take place on
Sunday 14th September 2008 in the
beautifully revamped faux-oriental setting of
Peasholm Park.
The acoustic acts will perform from the
bandstand on the lake under the towering
gaze of the gloriously rebuilt pagoda.
Similarly to last years event, over 20 acts will
feature on the bill, and over half of them will
be guests from all over the country
showcasing a nationwide wealth of talented
singer songwriters, this festival gives them
the platform to perform in front of as many
as 2000 music lovers.
Featuring over 20 acts ranging from local
legends Stony, to the madcap mayhem of
Manfat Voodoo & Johnny Jump Up, Flamenco
Guitarist Mark Boden from Middlesbrough,
phenomenallly talented duo Morales/Watts,
to rising modern female artistes such as
Steph Fraser, Holly Taymar & Natasha
Johansson.
The event will be headlined by Cornwall
based 3 Daft Monkeys, who combine rousing
vocals, frenetic fiddling, rhythmical 12-string
guitar, dancing bass and foot drum.
" A brilliant Band ... absolutely amazing " Mike
Harding, BBC Radio 2
Whether it's Celtic, Balkan, Gypsy, Spanish,
Cornish or other World Music you are drawn
to, you will hear it's influences in their self
written music. Add to this the band's varied
backgrounds from Dance, Dub, Punk, Reggae
and Traditional Folk, and you have a stunning
combination.
Their highly anticipated new studio album
‘Social Vertigo’ has been hailed as a dynamic
and astonishing album, demonstrating
superbly the band’s varied and accomplished
musicianship.
Whatever your taste in music, come and see
them live ... their unique blend of high
octane, funked-up folk is guaranteed to get
you dancing!!
Preceded by ex Little Angels vocalist Toby
Jepson (currently with Fastway & Gun), and
witness the return of Fame Academy star
Alastair Griffin plus a set from Edwina Hayes,
a fantastic Country & Western artiste who
performs regularly in Nashville, and recently
supported Nanci Griffith and The Blue Moon
Orchestra at The Wedgewood Rooms,
Portsmouth.
All facilities are on site including catering,
bar, toilets, festival stalls, kids
entertainment area, & as the dusk falls,
projections will illuminate the stage.
With plenty of room for families, lots of
space to relax and disabled access, everybody
is welcome at Scarborough’s very own
boutique acoustic festival which is shaping up
up to be the must attend event of this year’s
“Indian Summer”. " - Steve Mojo
