WIDESCREEN
PRESENTS... Live at The
basement.
Many thanks to everyone who came out
and supported the great bands on
Saturday night. In all it was a huge
success and a lot of fun. Big thanks to
x:am, Grinny Grandad, and Lokomotiv
Leipzig for some terrific sets. Special
thanks to Captain Ant, who drove over
from Scarborough to bring us some
superb theramin playing as well as
providing the night's big screen video
show.
We were also thrilled to welcome Alex
from BBC Radio York who was there to
report on the evening. She interviewed
Jason and Jools from Mint Records UK,
promoter Gazzmann of Widescreen and
MC I'm Hal who was compere for the
evening. You can hear the recording
and full story on Matt Seymour's show,
Thursday night from 7pm on BBC Radio
York 103.7, 104.3 and 95.5fm.
Grinny Grandad were also interviewed
on TV right after the Grinny's set. A
camera team from Sky channel: Men &
Motors (!) were outside CIty Screen and
chatted with the band (mostly about
Frankie Howerd and Smarties for some
reason) and you can catch the show
aired sometime in early December in a
special feature about clubbing in York.
To all those that managed to get the
free sampler cd - we hope you enjoy it
(please be sure to write and tell us your
favourite tracks, we'd love to hear from
you!). If you didn't get chance to pick
up a cd, just write and tell us (giving a
postal address of course) and we'll send
you one absolutely FREE. The CD
contains specially selected tracks from:
Grinny Grandad; Lokomotiv Leipzig;
Phantom Drum; Veibmeld; Whitenoise;
I'm Hal and Gazzmann. You can preview
the tracks and read all about the artists
at the website: http://
www.mintrecords.co.uk
Most of the evening was video taped,
and in the weeks and months to come
some footage from the event may
become available. You might be on it!
so stay tuned for information. Did you
take pictures that night? send them to
us and we'll post them up on the site.
Finally, if you didn't get a handful of
free mints from the mint sweetie jar in
the entrance, sorry - we won't be
mailing those out. You'll just have to
come to the next showcase night on
November 17th, same place, same
time, different bands (TBA). We can
reveal, however, that Veibmeld will be
making their debut performance as the
new and improved version of York band
(now defunct) The Projects.

As part of the build up to the event,
Veibmeld have secured a live session on
BBC. Matt Seymour will be chatting to
the band, finding out about new
changes and presenting a live set in the
studio by the band. You can hear the
show, More Raw, on Thursday 15th
November from 7pm on BBC Radio York
103.7, 104.3 and 95.5fm.

ABOUT US
Mint Records UK evolved as a response
for the need in York and North
Yorkshire (even out to the coast) for a
'point of contact' for musicians,
producers, djs and artists wanting to
break into the music business and be
heard. Our initial format was to cater
for the so-called and blossoming
'underground' scene in the area- all
those artists who use technology to
create progressive forms of music. This
could be anything from trip hop,
techno-rock and electro funk through
to house beats, electronica or purely
experimental.
Mint Records UK has a private recording
and mastering studio facility with the
ability to record solo acoustic artists, or
provide overdubs of instrumentals etc.
However, we also have access to many
full service studios if you need a full
band environment. Additionally we can
offer: Web Design; Video filming and
production; Graphic Design, CD sleeves;
Multi-Media Presentations; CD
Production and duplication; Printing,
backdrops, stage design; Distribution,
retail and digital promotion; Logo
Design and image management.

FUTURE PLANS
Working closely with Tees Music
Alliance in Stockton, we are looking
towards developing a range of events
and services geared towards musicians,
bands, solo artists and those wishing to
develop their understanding and
knowledge of the music business. As
yet, this is all in the very early stages,
but it is likely to include: Advice
networks and workshops; Mentor
services; visiting road shows and
speakers; Advice fairs; Talks; One off
open workshops; Face to face
mentoring; Guidance and Funding
information as well as providing a point
of contact to industry professionals. It's
a very exciting time for Mint Records
UK, and we will bring you further
updates as soon as we know what form
these initiatives will take.
Our contacts at Tees Music Alliance will
give you access to a range of
development initiatives including:
"NExNE" - an annual regional music
convention focusing on how to best
optimise opportunities for generating
income from music. "NERO" - a trade
association representing a range of
businesses involved in the the
promotion, production, publishing or
distribution of recorded material
originating from within the north east
of England. "NEMNET" (the North East
Music Network) - a site dedicated to
bringing together a resource of all
things music related within the north
east region; through NEMNET you can
find contact details for venues,
rehearsal rooms, studios and much
more.
Additionally we are looking to build
upon our work with our existing artists
as well finding and working with new
bands, djs, producers and musicians.
